The Sydney Cricket Ground is a multi-sport stadium situated in the capital city of the state of New South Wales, which is the most populous city in Australia.

Owned and operated by the Sydney Cricket Ground Trust, the 48,000-capacity stadium is home to the New South Wales cricket team, which is one of the most successful teams in Australia’s First-Class domestic circuit. The SCG is also home to three-time Big Bash League champions Sydney Sixers.

Unlike other cricket stadiums in Australia, which are known for their pacy and bouncy nature, the Sydney Cricket Ground has one of the most spin-friendly wickets in the country.

The SCG hosted its first-ever international cricket game in February 1882, which was a Test match between Australia and England. The right-arm off-break bowler Joey Palmer bagged 11 wickets in that contest to guide the hosts to a memorable win.

Interestingly, the first ODI match was also played between Australia and England in January 1979, which unfortunately ended in no result.

Here’s a look at the T20I records at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Sydney Cricket Ground T20I records

Highest total: The highest total in a T20I match at the Sydney Cricket Ground is 221/5 made by Australia in the only T20I of the England Tour of Australia 2006/07. Interestingly, it was the first ever T20I played on this ground. A total of six players, three each from both teams, made their international debut in the 20-over format.

Wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist, skipper Ricky Ponting, all-rounder Andrew Symonds and debutant Cameron White played some attacking cricket to propel their team to the mammoth total. In reply, England could only score 144/9 from their quota of 20 overs, facing a 77-run defeat in the process.

Lowest total: The lowest total recorded in a T20I match at the SCG is 101/10 made by Bangladesh against South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 game. The Proteas' bowling duo Anrich Nortje and Tabraiz Shamsi grabbed seven wickets between them to bowl their opponents out in a huge chase of 206 runs before winning the encounter comfortably by 104 runs.

Highest individual score: Australia all-rounder Shane Watson holds the record for the highest individual score in a T20I at this stadium. He smashed a 71-ball 124* against the Indian team in the third T20I of the India tour of Australia in 2016. The knock, played at a brilliant strike rate of 174.64, featured 10 fours and six maximums. Furthermore, it remains the only international century to be scored at the SCG in the shortest format of the game.

However, Watson’s superb efforts went in vain as Team India emerged victorious by seven wickets. Veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli scored half-centuries in the match-winning chase.

Best bowling: South Africa pacer Anrich Nortje holds the record for best bowling figures in a T20I match at the Sydney Cricket Ground. In the Super 12 match of the T20 World Cup 2022 against Bangladesh, the Proteas posted a total of 205/5 courtesy Rilee Rossouw’s dominating 56-ball 109.

In reply, Bangladesh could only score 101/10 in 16.3 overs as their batters were no match to Nortje’s lethal spell of 4/10. In the end, South Africa won it convincingly by 104 runs.

Highest partnership: The South African pair of Quinton de Kock and Rilee Rossouw holds the record for the highest partnership of 168 runs at the SCG. It is also the highest partnership recorded in T20 World Cup history.

In the Super 12 match of the T20 World Cup 2022 against Bangladesh, the Proteas posted a total of 205/5 in 20 overs thanks to a massive second wicket stand between the two batters.

Chasing a daunting target of 206 runs, Bangladesh were bowled out for 101 to hand South Africa a 104-run victory.

The Indian cricket team will lock horns with South Africa in the second T20 international (T20I) at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday, October 2. The match will start at 7:00 PM Indian Standard Time (IST).

IND vs SA Dream11 prediction for 2nd T20I 2022

Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, India started the three-match T20I series with a dominating eight-wicket victory at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala on Wednesday.

Electing to bowl first, India rode on an all-round bowling performance to restrict South Africa to a below-par score of 106/8 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, the Men in Blue chased down the target in just 16.4 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Interestingly, India have a superior head-to-head record against South Africa in the T20I format, winning 12 of the 21 matches that they have clashed in so far. The Proteas have registered eight victories so far. One match ended in no result.

Going by recent form and overall head-to-head record, IND will start as favourites against SA in Guwahati on Sunday.

IND vs SA Dream11 team tips for 3rd T20I 2022

Top tip: Best batter

India’s in-form cricketer Suryakumar Yadav will be the batter to watch out for in the second T20 international. The 32-year-old has been in brilliant form this year, amassing 732 runs in 21 matches at an impressive strike rate of 180.29 while also maintaining an average of 40.66. He smashed an unbeaten 51 off just 33 balls to help India secure a convincing win in the opening match of the series. Suryakumar Yadav has accumulated 85 fantasy points and could be a game-changer at just 8.5 credits.

Top tip: Best bowler

In the bowling department, Arshdeep Singh of India could be a smart pick at just 6.5 credits. The 23-year-old left-arm pacer troubled the South Africa batters in the first T20I, picking three wickets for 32 runs in his quota of four overs. Arshdeep Singh has accrued 107 fantasy points and will look to add more to his tally in the second T20I.

Top tip: Best all-rounder and wicket-keeper

Among the all-rounders on display, one could pick South Africa’s Wayne Parnell in their fantasy cricket team. Parnell conceded just 14 runs in his four overs in the opening match and also contributed 24 runs coming lower down the batting order. Parnell has bagged 34 fantasy points and could be a decent pick at just 6.5 credits.

For the wicket-keeper spot, South Africa’s Quinton de Kock will be the top fantasy recommendation over out-of-form Rishabh Pant of India. Apart from fulfilling his wicket-keeping responsibilities, de Kock has already amassed 1,895 runs in 70 T20Is at a strike rate of 133.08 and an average of 30.56. The South African gloveman is due for a big score and can prove to be a great pick at 9 credits.

Uncapped England cricketer Will Smeed currently owns the record for the highest individual score in the 100-ball League.

While opening the batting for his franchise Birmingham in the 100-ball League 2022, Smeed smashed an unbeaten 101-run knock off just 50 balls against defending champions Southampton at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground.

The swashbuckling right-handed batter surpassed England cricketer Liam Livingstone’s previous record, who hammered an unbeaten 92 off just 40 balls for Birmingham against Leeds during the inaugural edition of the 100-ball League in 2021.

During his record-breaking innings, Smeed became the first batter to score a hundred in the 100-ball tournament. The Cambridge-born cricketer’s impressive knock was laced with eight fours and six sixes.

Smeed’s ton powered Birmingham to 176/4 in their allotted 100 balls. In reply, Southampton were bowled out for 123 as the hosts won the match by 53 runs.

England international Liam Livingstone boasts the second highest individual score in the 100-ball League.

Chasing a target of 144 against Leeds during the 2021 edition, Livingstone scored an unbeaten 40-ball 92 to help Birmingham chase down the total in just 74 balls.

Livingstone’s blitzkrieg innings included three fours and 10 maximums. The knock guided Birmingham to a commanding eight-wicket victory.

England cricketer David Malan comes in third on the list for the highest individual scorers in the 100-ball League.

While representing the Nottingham franchise, the flamboyant southpaw scored 88 not out against hosts Leeds in the 2022 edition.

Malan’s unbeaten 88-run knock helped Nottingham chase down 153 in 94 balls. The England international hit 11 fours and three sixes during his match-winning innings.

England all-rounder David Willey, South Africa cricketer Colin Ingram and English batter Will Jack are next on the list. All the three cricketers have played 81-run knocks in the 100-ball League.

Playing for Nottingham, David Willey scored an unbeaten 81 off 45 balls against Lord’s London at the iconic Lord’s. Proteas batter Colin Ingram smashed 43-ball 81 not out for Oval London against hosts Birmingham the very next day of Willey’s innings.

During the 2022 edition, Oval London’s Will Jack scored 81 off 45 balls against Cardiff to equal Willey and Ingram.

New Zealand wicket-keeper batter Glenn Phillips is the only other batter to touch 80 in the 100-ball League. Representing Cardiff, Phillips smashed a 35-ball 80 against Lord’s London in the 2021 edition.

A lot of players can create magic with their bats - beautiful drives, big shots - you name it, they have it. And then there is another set of players who weave magic with their hands, both in front of the stumps with their bats and behind it with gloves.

Unlike other players, the role of a keeper is more challenging as they have to focus on more than one discipline throughout the game. Not only are they expected to be flawless behind the stumps, but wicket-keepers are also expected to perform with their bat.

It’s no mean feat as they have to stay focused more than most throughout the opposition innings before showing their own capability with willow in hand. Here’s a look at the players who scored the most runs in an ODI innings by a wicket-keeper.

MS Dhoni 183* vs Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka had scored 298/4 in their innings and got off to a great start while defending the total, taking out Sachin Tendulkar in the first over of the innings. MS Dhoni, coming in at No. 3, scored 183* (145) with 15 fours and 10 sixes, taking India to 303/4 and winning the match.

To put his knock into perspective, Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara had scored an unbeaten 138 off 147 balls himself, with another veteran, Mahela Jayawardene, scoring 71 off 70 deliveries. Yet it was Dhoni who shone that night at Jaipur in October 2005.

Quinton de Kock 178 vs Australia

South African wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock made headlines against Australia in September 2016. Asked to bat first, Australia stacked up 294/9 on the scoreboard, powered by David Warner’s 40 off 36 balls, George Bailey’s 74 off 90 balls and John Hastings?51 off 56 deliveries.

In the chase, South Africa got off to a blazing start, with both their openers hitting big from the word go. Openers de Kock and Rilee Rossouw stitched together a 145-run stand for the first wicket in just 17 overs, which made the rest of the chase a piece of cake.

De Kock’s knock, which came with 16 fours and 11 maximums, helped South Africa outdo Australia’s score by the 37th over itself.

Liton Das 176 vs Zimbabwe

Litton Das?special knock against Zimbabwe in March 2020 is one that Bangladesh fans will remember fondly. Playing at Sylhet, the home team’s openers - Litton and Tamim Iqbal - put a 292-run stand together.

The duo of Liton Das (176 off 143 balls) and Tamim Iqbal (128* off 109 deliveries) pummelled 23 fours and 14 sixes between them, with the former alone responsible for 16 fours and eight sixes.

The opening pair helped take Bangladesh to 322/3 in a match reduced to 43 overs due to rain. In response, Zimbabwe could only score 218 in 37.3 overs, falling short of the revised target calculated by the Duckworth Lewis method by 123 runs.
