The County Ground, Bristol is a picturesque cricket venue located in Bristol, England.

Formerly known as Ashley Down Ground, the County Ground, Bristol was bought by WG Grace in 1889 and has been home to Gloucestershire ever since.

The County Ground, Bristol was later sold to local confectionery firm J. S. Fry & Sons and renamed Fry's Ground. The county bought the ground back in 1933 and it reverted to its original name.

In 1976, the ground was once again sold to Royal & Sun Alliance, who renamed the ground the Phoenix County Ground for eight years before changing to The Royal & Sun Alliance County Ground until the ground was again bought by the club and renamed to its current title.

The County Ground, Bristol staged its first international cricket match, a One-Day International (ODI) played between New Zealand and Sri Lanka during the Prudential World Cup in June 1983. Under the leadership of Geoff Howarth, New Zealand won the ODI by five wickets. Since then, it has hosted 20 ODIs so far.

Let’s have a look at County Ground, Bristol ODI records and stats:

The Multan Cricket Stadium is a multi-purpose venue located in Multan, Pakistan.

Established in 2001, the Multan Cricket Stadium has a seating capacity of 35,000. Interestingly, the stadium was built as a replacement for the Qasim Bagh stadium.

It is the home ground of the Pakistan cricket team, Southern Punjab cricket team and PSL outfit Multan Sultans.

Owned by the Pakistan Cricket Board, the Multan Cricket Stadium staged its first One-Day International (ODI) match between Pakistan and Bangladesh in 2003. The Inzamam-ul-Haq-led Pakistan won the match by a massive 137 runs in Multan, Punjab.

It later hosted its first day/night ODI game at this venue between arch-rivals Pakistan and India on February 16, 2006. Led by Rahul Dravid, India secured a five-wicket win in that match. It has staged 10 ODIs so far.

Let’s have a look at Multan Cricket Stadium ODI records and stats:

Multan Cricket Stadium ODI records and stats

Highest team total

The Pakistan cricket team holds the record for the highest team total at the Multan Cricket Stadium in ODI format. The hosts posted 323/3 in their 50 overs during the first ODI of Bangladesh’s tour of Pakistan in 2003. Opener Yasir Hameed scored 116 while captain Inzamam-ul-Haq (56 not out) and Younis Khan (59 not out) hit fifties to power Pakistan to a huge total. In reply, Bangladesh were bowled out for 186 in 43.2 overs. Pakistan won the match by 137 runs and later registered a 5-0 ODI series win.

Lowest team total

The Zimbabwe cricket team recorded the lowest team total at the Multan Cricket Stadium in ODI cricket. Chasing a target of 293, the Tatenda Taibu-led Zimbabwe were skittled out for 148 in 38.3 overs against Pakistan in 2004. Shoaib Malik and Shahid Afridi were the standout bowlers for Pakistan as they bagged three wickets each. Earlier, all-rounder Abdul Razzaq’s unbeaten 107 guided Pakistan to 292/7 in their allotted 50 overs. Pakistan secured a comprehensive 144-run victory in Multan.

Most runs

Pakistan’s Imam-ul-Haq holds the record for the most runs at this venue in ODI cricket. The southpaw has scored 199 runs in three matches at an average of 66.33 and a strike rate of 94.31. He has slammed three fifties at the Multan cricket stadium in the 50-over format. Former Pakistani cricketer Yasir Hameed is second on the list with 197 runs in four ODIs.

Most wickets

Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz has picked up the most wickets at the Multan Cricket Stadium in ODI cricket. The slow left-arm spinner has already scalped seven wickets in three matches at an average of 19.42 and an economy of 4.53. He recorded best bowling figures of 4/19 on this ground in ODI cricket. His compatriot Shadab Khan features second on the list with seven wickets in three ODIs.

Highest individual score

West Indies cricketer Shai Hope owns the record for the highest individual score at this venue in the ODI format. The stylish wicketkeeper-batter scored 127 off 134 balls during the first ODI of West Indies' tour of Pakistan in 2022. Hope’s scintillating knock included 15 fours and one six. West Indies rode on Hope’s brilliant hundred to post 305/8 in their 50 overs. However, captain Babar Azam (103), Imam-ul-Haq (65) and Mohammad Rizwan (59) helped Pakistan chase down the required target in 49.2 overs and register a five-wicket victory.

Best bowling figures

Mohammad Nawaz has the best bowling figures at the Multan Cricket Stadium in ODI cricket. During the second ODI of the West Indies tour of Pakistan in 2022, Nawaz registered match-winning figures of 4/10 in Multan. Defending 275, the left-arm spinner bagged the huge wickets of Shamarh Brooks, Brandon King, Nicholas Pooran and Alzarri Joseph to bowl out West Indies for 155 in 32.2 overs.

South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen owns the record for the best batting average in ODI cricket.

The talismanic batter has maintained a batting of 74.95 in ODIs while aggregating 1,499 runs in 30 innings. In the process, van der Dussen has hit three centuries and 11 fifties.

In fact, Rassie van der Dussen is the only ODI batter to register a batting average over 70. Following a career-best score of 134 in 117 balls against England in July 2022, the Proteas star took his average within touching distance of 75.

Rassie van der Dussen’s batting average of 74.95 in 36 ODI matches is significantly greater than Ryan ten Doeschate, who is second on the list at 67.00.

The now-retired Dutchman Ryan ten Doeschate is arguably one of the greatest players to have played cricket from an Associate nation, as he amassed 1,541 runs in 33 ODI matches.

The South Africa-born all-rounder batted in all but one of his 50-over matches for the Netherlands, with the 2007 ODI match against Scotland washed out and his team not getting a chance to bat.

Ryan ten Doeschate’s best performance with the bat came against England during the 2011 Cricket World Cup. He slammed a 110-ball 119 as the Netherlands were chasing a target of 297. His knock, however, ended in a losing cause as the Three Lions won the fixture by six wickets.

Ten Doeschate retired in 2021 as the Netherlands?leading run-getter in ODIs, with five centuries and nine fifties. He is the only non-active player on the top five list for best batting average in ODI cricket.

Babar Azam, the current top-ranked batter on the ICC Men’s ODI rankings, is the third batter with the best batting average in ODI cricket.

The Pakistan captain has amassed 4,442 runs in 89 matches while registering a batting average of 59.22 and a strike rate of 90.24.

Azam is one of the finest batters Pakistan has ever had, and he continues to climb up the run charts. His highest individual ODI knock was 158 off 139 deliveries against England in 2021.

Former India captain Virat Kohli is next on the list. He is currently the highest-active ODI run-scorer with 12,344 runs in 262 games, and has registered a batting average of 57.68.

Kohli is among the greatest modern-day stalwarts across all forms of cricket. But in ODI cricket alone, the top-order batter is seen as someone who could break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI hundreds, given he has scored 43 centuries in 50-overs cricket.

Every World Cup failure for Pakistan sparks a wave of reviews and sackings and the promise of a fresh approach ?until the team wins again and all is forgotten.

The script is expected to be similar after Sarfaraz Ahmed's team failed to make the semi-finals in England and Wales despite a late charge.

Pakistan won four straight matches to finish level on 11 points with New Zealand, but they bowed out of the tournament due to an inferior net run-rate.

There have once again been calls for an overhaul of the system, changes in the team set-up and style of play, but 1992 World Cup winner Wasim Akram said there was no need to panic.

"Pakistan woke up late in the World Cup and when they gained momentum they won four straight games," the former captain told AFP.

"It is not a bad finish and I don't think we need to panic.

"There is no quick fix and the people running cricket need time and must keep the example of how England lifted their one-day cricket. I am ready to contribute towards that."

Watch | Stani Army's take on India-Pakistan clashes

England's humiliating first-round exit in 2015 sparked a radical rethink and the host nation started this World Cup as the number one side in the world.

Another World Cup winner, Ramiz Raja, believes Pakistan have the ability to produce "magical" cricket and says their exit is a loss to the tournament.

But he said every defeat was an opportunity to assess things and that ruthless decisions were required.

"I think every defeat gives an opportunity for introspection, so Pakistan need to do four or five things if they want to be a force in world cricket," he said.

"Pakistan have to correct their system, which can provide them with regular talent and then define and refine that talent.

"Look at Australia ?they were losing against every team a year ago but since their system is strong they stood up. We need to take ruthless decisions in a review."

The positions of head coach Mickey Arthur and captain Sarfaraz ?both of whom had contracts until the World Cup ?will be looked at as part of the assessment.

Luckily for Pakistan, they have a crop of talented youngsters who can form the nucleus of the team for years to come.

"At 24, we're the youngest team by a long way in this competition, and that is something that we can be proud of, and I think that augurs well for the future of Pakistan cricket," said Arthur, who wants to continue in the role of coach.

"We've showcased a lot of our young talent, and I think the likes of Shaheen Afridi, Babar Azam, Imam-ul-Haq, Shadab Khan, the list goes on and on. And look, there's going to be a review now, and we'll see how that goes.

"Unfortunately, it has always been this way for Pakistan -- we don't seem to be able to find that collective consistency. But my message, again, is 'let's stay positive'."

Pakistan has hosted little international cricket since Sri Lanka's team bus was attacked in 2009 in Lahore.

The situation has forced Pakistan to play at neutral venues in the United Arab Emirates, meaning the game is not so visible to the younger generation who need to be inspired to play the game.

The nation's cricket board is striving to bring back international cricket to Pakistan in the hope that will provide a further catalyst for a revival in the team's fortunes.

Imam-ul-Haq says Pakistan will go all out against Bangladesh on Friday even if they have no realistic chance of reaching the World Cup semi-finals.

Victory for New Zealand against England on Wednesday would leave the door open for Pakistan to seal a place in the last four if they win their final group match.

But a win for the tournament hosts would all but end the 1992 champions' chances of reaching the last four ?England would be out of reach on 12 points while New Zealand have a far-superior net run rate to Pakistan so would likely progress even if the two teams finished level on 11 points.

Imam said there was no despondency in the Pakistan camp despite the difficult situation.

"We are not thinking on the lines of not reaching semi-finals," said Imam. "Our plan is to play the semi-final with an all-out effort and at the end if that doesn't happen then we have to play positive cricket and end on a high."

Pakistan won just one of their first five World Cup matches but bounced back strongly with victories against South Africa, New Zealand and Afghanistan to give themselves a shot at reaching the semi-finals.

Imam said the 41-run defeat against defending champions Australia earlier in the competition was painful.

"I think the Australia defeat hurts me a lot. I was set and playing well. I should have won that match for Pakistan," said Imam.

"We lost four quick wickets and I think I should have won that game and we would have beaten a big team in the World Cup."

Imam, who scored his only fifty of the tournament in that match, said he was disappointed with his batting during the tournament.

"I think what expectations I had from myself I could not do like that," said Imam, who has so far scored 205 in seven innings. "I had starts but couldn't score big.

"I am very young so I have learned a lot in this World Cup. What mistakes I have committed, I have learned from them and I am sure that will help me," said the 23-year-old.

Pakistan's Imam-ul-Haq said this weekend's "huge-pressure" World Cup game against arch-rivals India was a must-win clash for his side after their defeat by Australia.

Wednesday' 41-run loss to the reigning champions in Taunton left Pakistan eighth in the 10-team table and with plenty to do if they are to qualify for the top four, who will contest the semi-finals.

Asked if the reverse at Somerset's headquarters meant Sunday's match at Old Trafford was now one Pakistan simply had to win, Imam replied: "Yes, we've had one game rained off, which was very important for us -- every game now is very important for us, so yes you can say that."

"Obviously, to be part of that kind of game, it's great. It's in Manchester, lots of Pakistani fans there -- so I'm really excited about it. It's a huge pressure game, obviously.

"Pakistan and India, there's a lot of mysteries behind that but we want to just focus on our cricket strengths and how we can get better."

Set a target of 308 to beat Australia, Pakistan were going well while Imam was at the crease making 53.

But he fell in tame fashion, gloving a legside ball from Pat Cummins he could have left alone to wicketkeeper Alex Carey.

So disappointed was Imam, he could barely drag himself from the crease before trudging back towards the pavilion.

Pakistan continued to lose wickets steadily and, despite a late flurry of runs from the eighth-wicket pair of captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and Wahab Riaz, were bowled out for 266.

"Obviously, I'm playing well, and this team depends on me and Babar (Azam)," said Imam.

"When Babar got out (for 30), it was then my responsibility and I was going well but it was not a good ball that got me out, the same as I did against the West Indies," added the left-hander, the nephew of Pakistan great and selection chief Inzamam-ul-Haq.

"I knew I'd spent a hell of a lot of time on a tricky wicket so I knew it wouldn't be easy for any new batsman to come in. So it was a huge disappointment.

"If I've scored 30 in a winning side, that would be great, I'd be very happy.

"As a pro, if you're winning matches for your country, that's the best thing and if you're not, even if you score a fifty, that's a huge disappointment."

Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq is relishing facing Australia pace spearhead Mitchell Starc when the two teams meet in the World Cup in Taunton on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old, a nephew of Pakistan great Inzamam-ul-Haq, said the confidence he had gained from facing England quicks Jofra Archer and Mark Wood would help him tame the Australia attack.

"Starc isn't a threat," said Imam. "In fact I am excited over the prospect of facing him. Same was said about Archer and Wood but we played them with confidence."

Imam scored a solid 44 in an 82-run opening stand against England in Nottingham, setting up Pakistan's second-highest total ever in a World Cup of 348 for eight in a match they won by 14 runs.

That came after he could only muster two runs in Pakistan's seven-wicket defeat against the West Indies in their opening game, when they were bowled for a paltry 105.

"I have played (Kagiso) Rabada and Dale Steyn in more difficult conditions in South Africa," said Imam, referring to Pakistan's tour of South Africa earlier this year.

Imam was Pakistan's most successful batsman on that one-day international series with 271 runs, including a century, in the five matches.

"You can’t say a bowler is threatening," he said. "I try to prepare according to my strengths instead of bowlers' strengths. I don't think like that, because you need to beat top teams if you want to play the World Cup final."

Imam, who hit a century on his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in 2017, scored a brilliant 151 against England in the series between the two countries before the World Cup.

He stressed the importance of giving Pakistan a platform in every game, with the help of opening partner Fakhar Zaman, as they prepare to face the defending champions, who will be smarting after a defeat to India.

"If you analyse then you notice that teams have succeeded in the World Cup mostly when the top three players have done well," he said.

Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Hafeez set up a five-wicket win for Pakistan in the first one-day international against South Africa at St George's Park on Saturday.

The left-handed Imam made a cultured 86 off 101 balls and Hafeez hit an unbeaten 71 off 63 deliveries as Pakistan chased down a target of 267 with five balls to spare.

Hashim Amla's 27th one-day international century was not enough for South Africa, who lost only two wickets in scoring 266 runs after winning the toss.

Pakistan's bowlers deserved credit for their team's win, which came after the tourists were well-beaten in all three Test matches.

Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed used his bowlers in short spells and their mixture of seam and spin proved better suited to a slow pitch than South Africa's attack.

South African strike bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Duanne Olivier conceded a combined 124 runs in 19.1 overs.

The Pakistan batsmen also proved better at rotating the strike, particularly during a 94-run second-wicket stand between Imam and Babar Azam (49).

Amla (108 not out) and new cap Hendrick ‘Rassie?van der Dussen (93) put on 155 for South Africa's second wicket but although they gradually increased the tempo of their partnership they were unable to dominate the bowling.

"Those two guys batted really well but there were probably 15 or 20 more runs that we could have scored if we had pushed a bit harder," said South African captain Faf du Plessis.

"Pakistan bowled really well in the middle overs."

Man of the match Hafeez said: "We were confident because we knew 266 was not a par score on this track. The first win of the series is very important."

Hafeez said an aggressive opening stand of 45 off 50 balls by Imam and Fakhar Zaman had given Pakistan momentum which was continued during the partnership between Imam and Azam.

Seamer Hasan Ali and leg-spinner Shadab Khan were the best Pakistan bowlers and the only two who bowled their full quota of ten overs, taking one for 42 and one for 41 respectively.

Pakistan looked to be cruising to an easy win until Imam was dismissed in the 37th over when he stepped out of his crease and sliced an attempted drive to deep cover.

Two more wickets fell cheaply before Hafeez and Shadab saw their side home, maintaining an unbeaten record for Pakistan in five one-day matches in Port Elizabeth, four of them against South Africa.

Amla and Reeza Hendricks (45) put on 82 off 105 balls for the first wicket before Van der Dussen made a slow start in his first one-day international, taking ten balls to score his first run.

Van der Dussen gained confidence as he hit six fours and three sixes in a 101-ball innings before hitting a full toss from Hasan to long-off in the 47th over. Amla made his runs off 120 balls with seven fours and a six.
