🤘 Texas 4, Texas Tech 1 | FINAL; Longhorns repeat at champs

Teagan Kavan came on in relief and closed out the game for Texas, striking out five batters over the final two innings to secure the Longhorns' second consecutive national championship with the 4-1 win. And this time it was a champ series sweep.

Texas gave its ace some extra breathing room in the seventh inning, adding two insurance runs to extend the lead before Kavan slammed the door in the final frame.

Kavan is the first to win WCWS Most Outstanding Player two years in a row.

Henry's home run extends Texas lead

Texas added a crucial insurance run in the top of the seventh inning.

Kayden Henry launched an opposite-field home run, extending the Longhorns' lead to 3-1 and giving Texas some breathing room as it moves three outs away from a national championship.

Texas 2, Texas Tech 1 | End 6th

After a leadoff single by Hannah Wells, NiJaree Canady settled back in and retired the next three Longhorn batters, keeping Texas' lead at just one run.

Teagan Kavan entered the game for Texas looking to record the final six outs and close out a potential national championship. Last year's Women's College World Series Most Outstanding Player showed exactly why she earned that honor, striking out the side in the bottom of the sixth. The Longhorns are now just three outs away from securing back-to-back national titles.

Halleman delivers another web gem for Texas Tech

Logan Halleman has been everywhere in left field for Texas Tech.

Earlier in the game, Halleman made a spectacular leaping grab to rob Texas of a potential extra-base hit and save at least one run, if not two. She wasn't done there. Later, Halleman raced back to the wall and crashed into the center-field fence while making another incredible catch to take away extra bases.

Texas 2, Texas Tech 1 | End 5th

Texas finally broke through against NiJaree Canady in the fifth.

The Longhorns opened the inning with back-to-back singles before left fielder Logan Halleman made a spectacular leaping catch to rob Texas of a potential extra-base hit and save at least one run. Texas Tech then elected to intentionally walk SEC Player of the Year Katie Stewart, loading the bases with two outs.

Viviana Martinez delivered for Texas, hitting a hard ground ball to shortstop Hailey Toney. Toney's throw to third sailed wide, allowing two Longhorn runners to score and giving Texas a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth.

Meanwhile, Texas ace Teagan Kavan has begun warming up in the bullpen, a sign the Longhorns could turn to their star right-hander later to close out this game.

Texas Tech 1, Texas 0 | End 4th

After retiring 11 straight batters, NiJaree Canady ran into her first bit of trouble of the night. Reese Atwood doubled with two outs, and Leighann Goode was hit by a pitch. Canady, however, responded by getting Hannah Wells to pop out and end the threat, keeping the Longhorns scoreless through four innings.

We also have our first pitching change of the game.

Texas turned to Hannah Wells, one of the most accomplished freshman hitters in program history, to take over in the circle. With just three innings pitched this postseason, the true freshman entered in a pivotal spot in Game 2, looking to keep the Red Raiders at just one run as NiJaree Canady continues to dominate on the other side.

Hannah Wells ran into trouble after Jasmyn Burns recorded her second hit of the game with a single up the middle. Wells then issued a walk and hit a batter, loading the bases with two outs for the Red Raiders.

Texas head coach Mike White wasted no time, turning back to starter Citlaly Gutierrez in an effort to escape the jam. The senior pitcher delivered, getting Mihyia Davis to line out to center field and keeping Texas Tech's lead at one.

Texas Tech 1, Texas 0 | End 3rd

Texas Tech strikes first in Game 2.

After recording her second hit of the night, Mihyia Davis put herself in scoring position with her 39th stolen base of the season. Lauren Allred then lined a single up the middle, bringing Davis home and giving the Red Raiders an early lead.

NiJaree Canady is on cruise control at the moment. The Texas Tech ace has retired nine straight batters and needed just 35 pitches to get through three scoreless innings.

Texas 0, Texas Tech 0 | End 2nd

We have ourselves a pitchers' duel to start Game 2. Three-time All-American NiJaree Canady retired the side in order in the second inning, recording a strikeout as she continues to look in complete control for the Red Raiders.

Citlaly Gutierrez ran into some trouble after walking Kaitlyn Terry and allowing a single to Jasmyn Burns. However, the senior right-hander worked her way out of the jam with a key strikeout and a groundout to first base, keeping Texas Tech off the scoreboard through two innings.

Texas 0, Texas Tech 0 | End 1st

After allowing a leadoff single to Kayden Henry, NiJaree Canady settled into the game, retiring the next three Longhorn batters to keep Texas scoreless in the opening frame.

Texas turned to Citlaly Gutierrez to start Game 2 after ace Teagan Kavan tossed a complete game in the 7-3 Game 1 win. Gutierrez hit Mihyia Davis early in the inning, and Davis eventually moved into scoring position with a stolen base, but Gutierrez retired the next two batters to escape the first unscathed and keep the game scoreless.

Don't be surprised to see Teagan Kavan later in this game, particularly if Texas is able to grab a lead.

☝️ Longhorns take Game 1: Texas 7, Texas Tech 3

Just as it did in last year's WCWS series opener, Texas leaned on persistent offense and a complete-game win by star pitcher Teagan Kavan to take the first of the series. She got plenty of help from the offense, which banged out 10 hits and seven runs against the vaunted Texas Tech pitching staff.

Kavan pitched all seven innings, allowing three hits, three runs and two walks for a 2.4 ERA.

Texas Tech will look to even the series with ace Nijaree Canady, who only threw in relief for just over an inning tonight, but Texas will look to make it a quick series and claim its second National Championship tomorrow.

Texas 7, Texas Tech 3 | Bottom 6th

It seems like every time Texas Tech gets it going, Texas has a response. The Longhorns tack another in the bottom of the sixth.

Viviana Martinez drove in her second runner of the night with Kaitlyn Terry back in to pitch, scoring Jaycie Nichols with the bases loaded. The Red Raiders now have just three outs to get four runs to try to extend this game with the bottom of the order on deck.
